To lay the groundwork for in-depth learning about bamboo architecture and sustainable construction innovations, a group of students and faculty members from the Cornell University College of Architecture, Art, and Planning joined the Tour & Lecture (Pre-workshop) program held in Chonburi Province and at Thammasat University, Rangsit Campus.

March 23, 2024 – Field Trip @ Chonburi

This field trip offered firsthand experience and exploration of real-world bamboo architecture projects that reflect contemporary design approaches, including:

• Ammokami Pavilion – A contemporary bamboo structure highlighting expressive structural design
• Bamboo Solution – A model bamboo farm and processing facility
• Wonder Farm @ Sunsaray – A natural learning environment and home-school designed with bamboo

March 24, 2024 – Lecture & Academic Exchange @ Thammasat Rangsit

The second day took place at the Faculty of Architecture and Planning, Thammasat University, Rangsit Campus, and included the following key activities:

• A special lecture by Associate Professor Dr. Supreedee Ritthirong, sharing experiences in teaching the bamboo studio course and discussing the development of local material knowledge in Thailand

• Academic exchange and student presentations by Cornell students, providing a valuable opportunity for cross-institutional learning through architectural ideas and real project work

The Tour & Lecture program served as an essential foundation leading up to a small-scale bamboo construction workshop, which will follow as the next phase of collaboration. This hands-on workshop will bring together Cornell students and Thai faculty/students, fostering experiential learning through cross-cultural and cross-institutional cooperation.
